However, when the petition was presented to the town council at Jan 20th town meeting Surfer Behavior was the only concern discussed. This is a very important distinction because it means that the ‘60' signees were actually misrepresented inside the Town's chamber. The petition was by and large used to manipulate the Council into believing surfer behavior is a much bigger concern than it really is. As a result just a few property owners under-handedly impacted a policy related decision and slandered this long standing environmentally conscious, reputable surf community.

Comment on Not stoked about surfers (Printed Jan. 29, 2010)

Right on Nico! What's required to ride safely are motorcycling skills which can be acquired by attending a motorcycle safety course taught by a competent instructor. And there are no studies that show that loud bikes are safer than quiet one. And it doesn't mention that information with the title, "Tampering With Noise Control System Prohibited" in upper case, bold faced is required by federal law to appear in every motorcycle owner's manual. So it's obvious to any motorcycle owner that tampering with the legal exhaust is illegal. There was nothing in the story about the success that Denver has had since it adopted the EPA matching label law in 2007 as part of their noise ordinance. Denver officials now receive very few complaints about loud motorcycles. There's also an air pollution aspect to the loud motorcycle problem. When the EPA certified exhaust is replaced with an open pipe system such as drag pipes, the air pollution equipment is disabled. A motorcycle then may emit as much toxins into the air per mile of travel as 200 or more of today's cars. Motorcycle noise now blights many of Maine's neighborhoods and communities to the point where many thousands of Mainers are impacted. The Maine Municipal Association testified at Tuesday's hearing for LD1675 that the problem has grown to the point where something needs to be done about it.

Comment on Not stoked about surfers (Printed Jan. 29, 2010)

“I want the surfers to be like hunters and be respectful,” he said. “This is about striking a balance.”

LOL!! Surfers, stop going to this beach, and more importantly stop buying gas in this town, paying for parking in this town, buying a meal in this town, staying in a hotel in this town and obviously do not clean up a beach you are unwelcome at, there are plenty in need of our effort. Americans don't only vote in November, we vote everytime we open our wallets and choose organic veggies over conventional or to buy from a town that welcomes us rather than one that shuns us. Good luck finding a wave in New England, apparently aloha stops at the high tide line.

Comment on Wood Island Light turns 200 (July 18, 2008)

Wood Island Lighthouse
The Rescue of Tammy Burnham
By, Margo Alley

This wonderful book mentoined in the Wood Island article above is available at:
www.biddefordpoolmaine.com

Comment on Letter: Loss of conservative voice will hurt Scarborough (Printed dec. 25, 2009)

Thank you Richard! Kennedy, U.S.C.G. of Fletcher's Neck Life Saving Station, along with his Engine man Kenneth Realue, and the rest of his Coast Guard crew, rescued Tammy Burnham, a 2 1/2 year old light keepers daughter at Wood Island Lighthouse, Maine. The men aboard the 30 foot lifeboat saved that little girls life that night. Much has marketed about the rescue in regards to, "preserving the history of Wood Island Lighthouse". John F. Kennedy and Kenneth Realue have much to share about the history of the rescue. Both of these Coast Guard veterans are interested in sharing the interesting facts surrounding the story. They have a heroic tale to tell. I was there that night and I remember it well!

Comment on Funding crunch for school budget

The allocation of education cuts being imposed by Baldacci are simply outrageous. According to the "Imapct of Curtailment" statement found at

http://www.maine.gov/budget/budgetinfo/2010curtailment.htm

the Department of Education would lose less than $5000 while local schools will be cut over $38 million!

The Office of the Governor does little to mitigate cuts elsewhere in the state budget. It manages a whopping $65,000. What a pathetic display of leadership by the Governor.

Comment on Rep. proposes introduction of mixed martial arts events (April 24, 2009)

Hope for the best to have MMA events in Pine Tree State.
