Two step up to fill seat
Two Democrats announced their intentions to seek the Maine Senate District 7 after Sen. Larry Bliss (D-South Portland) resigns April 15.
Maine Rep. Cynthia Dill, who represents Cape Elizabeth in House District 121, and South Portland City Councilor Tom Blake said they will seek the nomination when Cumberland County Democratic Committee members in the district meet to vote on a nominee.
Reid Scher, chairman of the Cumberland County Democratic Committee, said the committee is now identifying members who live in the district that encompasses South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and eastern portion of Scarborough.
Once Gov. Paul LePage declares the seat open and calls for a special election to fill the remainder of Bliss’ term, local Republican and Democratic committee members will nominate candidates. No date has been set for caucuses or the election.
