Letter: Volk has ideas for Maine (Printed Aug. 6, 2010)
I support the candidacy of Amy Volk who is running for the Maine House of Representatives, District 127 in Scarborough. I have known Amy for approximately 10 years and have a great deal of respect for her and her family. I believe Amy’s political views are in line with my personal beliefs and many registered voters in her district.
Amy recognizes the key to improving the Maine economy is to make the state more business friendly. It must attract companies offering high quality jobs and better wages for employees. I have seen far too many families leave Scarborough due to the sparse number of well-paying jobs in southern Maine.
Amy has outlined a number of specific actions she believes would significantly improve the business climate in Maine. Most focus on reducing regulation and taxation in Maine. As a member of the House of Representatives, Amy would strongly support legislation that advances this agenda.
As a mother of four children, Amy recognizes the critical role education plays in shaping Maine’s future. The record shows that although the state has aggressively funded education, the return on investment has been extremely limited.
Amy believes educating young people must be a top priority, however, as we have learned this does not mean increasing spending will resolve current problems. Amy believes it is possible to reform and restructure the education system without necessarily allocating additional resources.
Amy is a bright, intelligent individual who believes she can make a difference. Her common sense approach and values make her an ideal candidate to represent her district. I would encourage you to learn more about Amy’s position on the issues that are important to you and consider voting for her this November.
