Letter: Successful book sale helps library serve community (Printed July 9, 2010)
On behalf of the Friends of the Scarborough Library, I would like to thank the many members of the community who helped make our annual book sale so successful this year. The success is due to the generosity of those who donate as well as those who purchase books.
Proceeds from the sale enable us to purchase books for the library’s adult and children’s collections. We also hold programs that are free and open to the public. This spring, 120 children and parents enjoyed the Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers’ production of “Everybody Loves Pirates.” We are now preparing to host Reza Jalali, writer and USM professor, who will present a program about “new Mainers” in October.
The Friends appreciate the generous help of our corporate sponsors. One Stop Party Shoppe provided the tents and display tables. The Scarborough Hannaford Bros. and Sam’s Club stores donated supplies that enabled us to sort and sell books. Scarborough Public Works generously allows us to sort books at its building. It also delivers all our sorted books to the library for the sale.
Thank you to all for supporting the sale, we wish you happy reading and look forward to seeing you at next year’s sale.
