Letter: Touched by tributes (Printed July 2, 2010)

To the editor:

Earlier this year the Scarborough community dealt with the sudden and tragic passing of Sandra Bailer, a literacy teacher at Blue Point School.

The amount of support received from friends and co-workers was amazing. The teachers from Blue Point hosted a wonderful luncheon after Sandy’s service with donations of time and food from many Blue Point parents and friends of the family.

As a tribute to Sandy, the community again came together in June to put in a walkway and plant a garden in her honor at the family’s house. Several local businesses donated material or services including Flaherty’s Farm, Estabrook’s Color Spot, Blue Rock and Coast Country Store in Old Orchard Beach.

It is difficult to express the level of appreciation we feel for the kindness that has been extended to the family. We are grateful to live in such a thoughtful and supportive community.
