Letter: Now what with fees? (Printed June 18, 2010)
To the editor:
Regarding $200,000 in co-curricular fees in the school budget, now that the budget passed at the election on June 8, I have some questions for the school board.
What is the amount of the co-curricular fee assessed to each co-curricular activity? What logic was used to determine what qualifies as a co-curricular activity versus what does not qualify and hence a fee not assessed?
What logic was used to determine the fee assessed to each activity? If a student qualifies for an assisted lunch program, what fee if any would they pay?
With the school year just about over, it seems appropriate that the fees be announced by activity for next year immediately by activity so students can determine the potential impact and plan accordingly.
