School budget goes to voters Tuesday - June 4, 2010

The second school budget referendum seeking approval of the $35 million revised fiscal year 2011 education budget will be held Tuesday during statewide bond referendum and primary elections.

Polls in the gym at Scarborough High School are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Absentee ballots are now available at Town Hall in Council Chamber B.

There was a public hearing and second reading for the budget during Wednesday’s council meeting, after the Leader deadline. The first proposed budget was rejected 493-483 in a May 11 referendum.

In a second, nonbinding question, voters said the budget was too low by 490-387. The revised budget adds $100,000 in spending, taken from the Scarborough School Department teacher accrual fund.
