Letter: Approve state bond (Printed May 28, 2010)

To the editor:

The combination of greater energy independence, creation of green jobs and making immediate energy savings is a tough combination to beat but that’s just what Maine voters will get if we approve Question 2 on the June ballot.

Question 2, a $26.5 million bond issue, funds $15.5 million in energy improvements in buildings throughout the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System and Maine Maritime Academy. These are much-needed improvements that will make these public facilities more energy efficient and cost effective.

Another $11 million will fund development of an offshore wind energy development site.

This University of Maine project will be designed to develop a new green industry, (and the jobs that come with it), while helping to provide a clean, renewable source of energy for our state.

Please vote on June 8.

Enough is enough of living beyond our means borrowing other people's, other states, and federal stolen taxpayer dollars.

Look at the referendum for Maine: Add 100 new taxes, Borrow, Borrow, Borrow, Borrow.

LOOK AT IT FOR WHAT IT IS. Would you do this with your family budget? THIS IS YOUR FAMILY BUDGET
