Letter: Kiwanis helps cupboard (Printed April 24, 2010)

To the editor:

On Saturday, April 16, Kiwanis Key Cub members of Scarborough and South Portland held a food drive for our cupboard. Under the supervision of members (and in the rain), students collected needed food items. We are very grateful for the thoughts and energy of these young people. A great community service was done.

The South Portland Food Cupboard helps any person or family that comes to us who qualifies, no matter where they live. Acceptance to our cupboard is a monetary one; the total income of the person or family must be below 150 percent of the poverty level.

This year we are averaging sharing food with 104 individuals each week. Many people are temporarily unemployed and with the help of food drives we can provide food for those in need. Key Club members are very service-oriented and we are thankful.
