Allen V. Smith
Allen V. Smith, 78, of Scarborough, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at his home with his family at his side after a long illness with pulmonary fibrosis.
He attended South Portland schools and served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, followed by service in the Naval Reserves from 1955 to 1959.
As a boy he worked at Prouts Farm with his future brother-in-law, Frank Morong.
Mr. Smith married Edna Wilbur on April 17, 1954, and they had two children, Sally and Allen.
He worked at Portland Gas Light for several years and retired in March 1989. After retiring, he worked at Colcord & Sons from 1989 to 1992 and then at Avis Car Rental in South Portland for 16 years.
He was past master of the Gov. William King lodge and belonged to the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite No. 4, Kora Shrine Club of Greater Portland, Portland-Saint Alban Commandry No. 2, Portland Council No. 4, was a life member of the Cumberland Mount Vernon No. 1, and American Legion.
He belonged to the National Camping Travelers and enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife in their Winnebago.
He loved to square dance with the Mix ‘N Mingle group and was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders motorcycle club and enjoyed traveling across the country.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son Allen in 2002, and his brother Leon in 2001.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edna Marie Smith; his sister Ann Morong and her husband, Frank; his daughter Sally Petit and husband, Robert, of Scarborough, two grandsons, three great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara C. Jannelle
Barbara Campbell Jannelle, 79, of Scarborough, died after a long illness Thursday, March 4, 2010, with her family at her side at Pine Point Nursing Center.
She was born March 18, 1930, in Boston to Stanley S. and Alma Curran Campbell.
She married Neal Alan Janelle Sr. in 1953 and had four children, Karyn, Alan, Brenda and Brian. She and her husband enjoyed their camp at Sebago Lake as well as RV camping in Maine and Florida. They also loved antiquing at auctions and flea markets. She was known for her fun nature and love of crazy hats.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Neal Alan Jannelle Sr.; her parents, Stanley and Alma Campbell, and a brother, Robert Campbell.
Survivors include her children Karyn Pasquine and her husband, Paul, of Bangor, Neal Allan Jannelle Jr. of Alexandria, Va., Brenda Pettinicco of Naples and Brian A. Jannelle of Litchfield; seven grandchildren; her sister, Priscilla Proudfoot of Gorham and brother, Donald D. Campbell of Snomish, Wash.
