Letter: A vote for Volk (Printed April 2, 2010)

To the editor:

Sometimes during hard and dark times an unexpected ray of hope comes shining through. This is exactly what has happened for the citizens of Scarborough House District 127.

We are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel because Amy Volk has decided to run for the seat. I am thrilled to support Amy Volk for state representative and grateful for her willingness to help our town and state in their time of need.

Every parent knows that good parenting is the toughest job in the world. Amy and her husband have four children attending Scarborough schools. Amy has her family values straight and is ready to represent all age groups during difficult financial times. Amy is also a small business owner. She has the ability to balance both jobs well and feels she can successfully take on a leadership role in the House of Representative.

Amy is a pragmatic person and would not be taking on this effort unless she could do an excellent job. I’m sure that she will. She has the life experiences to go to Augusta and share common sense ideas; innovating Maine, becoming more job friendly, changing social service policies that reflect what the rest of the United States are doing, increasing performance, and graduation rates in Maine’s public schools and most importantly, finding new jobs to bring into Maine.

Amy has already spent many hours of her free time helping the community by substitute teaching, volunteering in the schools and a volunteer program allowing adult mentors to work with children. Amy shows an incredible perspective about serving in the House that can only come from maturity. She is a no-nonsense kind of gal who will get things done in Augusta. I highly recommend Amy Volk to represent District 127.
