Letter: Warm thanks to library (Printed March 12, 2010)

To the editor:

Recently the Scarborough Library asked patrons for blankets for those in need. It was a huge success with more than 100 blankets, shawls and throws collected. The timing was perfect and our clients were extremely grateful.

We have seen a tremendous increase in visitors to our Thursday morning cupboard. Just in this past February we saw a 36 percent increase over last year. Many of the new clients are out of work.

Keeping enough food on hand is a challenge enough without addressing the other needs a client may have. We cannot thank Nancy Crowell, her staff and Scarborough patrons for their caring and generosity. You kept many warm during our cold months.

South Portland Food Cupboard is in the basement of St. John the Evangelist Church, on Route 1. We are open on Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30. You can call us at 874-0379.
