Obituaries (Printed March 5, 2010)

Nicholas DiMastrantonio, 78, of Scarborough, died at his residence with his children by his side Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, following a lengthy illness.

His children cared for him at his residence for the past year.

He was married to Gloria M. Allaier for 32 years and worked 39 years as a railroad engineer for the Maine Central Railroad. He was a member of the South Portland Thornton Heights Fire Department Engine 6.

Mr. DiMastrantonio was appointed chief umpire of the Scarborough American Little League for 11 years. He also lent 14 acres of land for local farmers to use. Mr. DiMastrantonio was an active member of the Elks Club (BPOE 188) in Portland for 37 years. His love and his hobbies included baseball, football and basketball and he was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his brother, Tony DiMastrantonio of Connecticut; sisters Victoria Wilson of Gray and Rose DiMastrantonio of Hallowell; three sons, Nicholas DiMastrantonio of Shapleigh, Mark DiMastrantonio of Scarborough and Chris DiMastrantonio of Rumford; four daughters, Sheila Sanborn of Standish, Julie Reynolds of Gorham, Priscilla DiMastrantonio of Saco and Tina Webber of Waterboro; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
