Eric Conlon of Scarborough has been awarded a bachelor of Science in Management from Kaplan University.

The Kaplan University summer 2009 class of more than 2,500 students earned their degrees completely online. Hundreds traveled from around the country and the world to attend the ceremony, meeting face-to-face for the first time.

2009 has been a momentous year for Doreen and Roger Cabana, residents of Scarborough Terrace. Not only did Roger celebrate his 90th birthday Feb. 11, but the couple marked their 68th Anniversary and Doreen her 88th birthday Aug. 1.

Thirty-two students, including Scarborough residents Matthew Buttarazzi (Colgate University graduate) and Megan McBrady, (University of Notre Dame graduate), were inducted into the first class of the new Maine Medical Center – Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program at an Aug. 3 ceremony. Gov. John Baldacci was among the speakers to welcome the Class of 2013 into the medical school program, the first of its kind in Maine.

Twenty of the undergraduate medical openings each year are reserved for Mainers, who also receive scholarship support. The scholarships reduce what Maine students pay to an amount that’s comparable to in-state tuition for a medical school at a public university. That’s typically half of the out-of-state burden Maine students would face in another state or roughly $100,000 over four years.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins announced  Matthew Golojuch has been awarded a summer internship in her Washington, D.C. office. Golojuch’s primary responsibility will be to assist staff with constituent relations.

Golojuch is the son of Richard and Nancy Golojuch and a 2006 graduate of Scarborough High School. He will be a senior at George Washington University in the fall where he is studies political science and history.
