To the editor:

There is a simple, cheap, effective solution for the Payne Road problem: change the speed limit to 25 mph from Cabela’s to Route 1 and enforce it.

Increasing the wait time on the light at the Payne Road / Route 1 intersection would make this even more effective, along with improving flow at Dunstan corner.

Haigis Parkway would then be the faster route south, by far, and through traffic would use it a lot more often. Equally important, this would maintain access for other Scarborough residents in the Dunstan area who need access to portions of Payne Road south of Cabelas.

Please don’t waste money on major roadwork, and don’t punish other Scarborough residents by cutting off access, especially when there is a much simpler, cheaper solution available.
