The Marsh (July 24, 2009)
Welcome once again to another edition of the Marsh. It’s looks as though we’ve had some “big doings” with sports in the town of Scarborough this past week.
Congratulations to Robert Hall and Kevin Manning who competed in the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympics in Fitchburg, Mass. Robert won the gold medal in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:01, while Kevin won two silver medals in the discus and javelin events. They will both compete at the National Level in Greensboro, NC on August 2.
The Scarborough Boy’s Junior Little League All-Star team won the District 6 Championship, and will play in the state tournament in Bangor on July 24. They laid the smack down twice on South Portland National, finishing with a 5-1 record during tournament. Good luck, team!
The Scarborough Babe Ruth 13-Year Old All-Star team won the district championship last Saturday. Connor Murphy, Andrew Emple, Jayme Lappin, Ian Morris and Nick Whitten all produced offensively throughout the tournament, while Murphy and Ryan Bailer came through with strong pitching efforts. The team will play in the Maine State Babe Ruth tournament in Farmington starting today. Good job guys!
As of press time, the playoffs have just begun for the Libby-Mitchell Post 76 baseball team, who has enjoyed a successful season, currently ranking in third place in the standings. Good luck to the team throughout the rest of the playoffs.
Also good luck to Brian Woodbury and Billy Gorham, who will represent Scarborough High School at the 20th annual Lobster Bowl Classic tomorrow afternoon. The massive pair has been selected among some of the best graduating high school football players in the state. They will both continue their career this fall at Saint Anselm College. Good job fellas, enjoy your final high school football game.
Last but not least, a great big pat on the back to Danger Dave, who failed to win a single match at the Tranch Tournament last Saturday. Why am I congratulating myself you ask? Because I am still alive, there needs to be no other explanation. The fact that I’m still living after getting mauled on the mat is a testament to just how dangerous I really am.
Until next week, thanks for reading!
