The Marsh

Welcome to the second week of “The Marsh.” The Scarborough High School Spring sports season is heading down to the wire, and standings within Western Class A are becoming more and more important.
The latest round of the Maine Principal Association Heal Point standings came out this week, with many of the Red Storm teams at or near the top of their respective standings. As of press time, the Red Storm softball team was in first place, while the baseball, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse and boys’ and girls’ tennis all were in third place in their respective sports in Western Class A. The girls’ lacrosse team was in eighth place but improved their record this week with two more wins, which may have moved them up in the standings.
If the season were to end today, all of the teams would make the playoffs, showing there is certainly no shortage of athletes this year in Scarborough.
Scarborough freshman softball pitcher Mo Hannan continues to have an impressive first season, picking up her fourth win of the season during the Red Storm’s win on Monday against Massabesic. She, along with freshman Dominique Burnham, who was pitching in her first varsity game, combined to strike out 14 batters in a 13-0 victory. It truly is a bad time to be a Massabesic Mustang alumni (which I am).
Plenty of firsts happened in Scarborough Little League softball this past week. Sarah Murphy of Volk Packaging pitched in her first game and was quite successful, as she had a strikeout and did not allow any runs.
Caitlin Merrill of Jones & Warren achieved her first hit in the Majors division, which was an RBI double. Haley Lawsure of Jones & Warren also got her first Majors hit.
Tori Hale hit a two run triple for the Southern Maine Flame this past week, which was her first extra base hit.
