The Marsh (May 15, 2009)
This is a column dedicated to all athletes in Scarborough, whether they have made a great play made in a game, shown a solid week of practice, celebrated a birthday, or made the honor role.
To start with, congratulations go to Maria Quartarano, who got her first hit in the majors division of the Scarborough Little League this past week.
Also a happy birthday to Scarborough Little Leaguer Abbie Murrell, who turns 10 years old on Sunday.
Scarborough High School baseball team defeated the Massabesic Mustangs by a score of 15-2 on Tuesday.
Speaking of baseball, Scarborough pitcher and future University of Maine Black Bear Chris Bernard has a 4-0 record as of press time, including an impressive victory over the Portland Bulldogs on Monday.
Bernard struck out eight batters in seven innings of work to help give the Red Storm a 1-0 victory.
Blake Brubach hit the game winning double to give Scarborough the victory.
As of Tuesday, the Scarborough High School softball team was enjoying an 8-0 record, well on their way of repeating last season’s 16-0 record.
Congrats go out to Wentworth Intermediate students Jared Brooks and Jamie Sproull. Both Jamie and Jared received the Richard C. Libby Jr. Offseason Baseball Dedication awards.
The awards are given out for consistently attending the offseason Libby-Mitchell American Legion Post 76 program.
