Letter: Residents Association welcomes thoughts, participation (May 1, 2009)

Editor:

The Pine Point Residents Association is an informal group of citizens who are involved in local issues affecting the character of Pine Point. The association formed five years ago in response to a proposal affecting valuable public beach access at the end of the Pine Point Road. The association was active in several issues; opening up the public street, removing barricades at King Street, promoting the town’s acquisition of more public land next to the new Beachwalk development, providing input into the “condotel” issue, and most recently participating in a study on a road reconstruction project at the end of Pine Point Road.

One of our roles is to keep neighbors and citizens informed of news and events as well as represent members’ positions of the issues. Many of these have been controversial. We have been influential as an organization by communicating through email and word of mouth so people are aware of issues and accomplishments.

Our work has been archived at www.pinepointbeach.com. We invite you to spend time exploring the site to develop an appreciation of the issues we’ve become involved with.

There are more issues ahead, ones of great importance to the community and neighborhood. During the years we have built our membership roll as more people wanted to become informed and participate. It is now important to continue that. Consider joining our association by emailing Judy Shirk at jshirk@maine.rr.com. You will be added to our confidential email list and receive frequent newsletters. We will also host gatherings this spring and summer to ask for consensus on various positions we can present to town officials.

We invite you to join our efforts. If you know of others who would appreciate being kept informed, please send us their email. We will send messages to non-members as well. If you don’t have email, you can still contact us and we will do our best to get you information.
