Letter: Make Project Graduation a success, support auction (March 6, 2009)

Editor:

As our high school seniors find themselves on the home stretch, I find myself reflecting on my experience a year ago when my oldest daughter was a senior. Graduation was becoming a reality for her and the thrill of what was ahead was very much alive.

I was busy volunteering for Project Graduation, unaware of how relieved I would be on graduation night as she and her classmates celebrated their accomplishment with Project Graduation. On that night, I realized the true value of Project Graduation.

Project Graduation is designed to make graduation night a safe, fun, chemical-free celebration for the graduating class of Scarborough High School. It provides an opportunity for all graduates to gather in a safe place and enjoy food and activities as they mark this major milestone.

While I relaxed at home following the graduation ceremony, my daughter enjoyed a night packed with friends and activities and she returned home safely at the conclusion of this night-long event. The many volunteer hours and business donations that made Project Graduation a reality were priceless.

Each year, we parent volunteers worry about funding this event which cost approximately $100 per student. As you can imagine, this year we are more worried than ever.

I hope the parents of all our high school students and the citizens of our great community will help us make Project Graduation a reality again this year. On Saturday, March 21, Project Graduation is hosting its annual auction.

The auction is the major fundraiser underwriting all costs for this eventful and SAFE night. Parents and student volunteers will transform the high school cafeteria into a movie adventure with music, food and many great items featured in a silent and live auction.

Please join us on March 21 beginning at 5 p.m. and help contribute to a terrific community effort by participating in this important fundraiser for the kids.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $5.
