Staff Writer
Scarborough Police are investigating the alleged robbery of a Cumberland Farms store near the municipal and school complex on Route 1.
Scarborough Police Sgt. Rick Rouse said the alleged robber entered Cumberland Farms at about 8 a.m. Feb. 8 and requested money from the cashier. Rouse said the alleged robber did not display a weapon and indicated the cashier would not be hurt if he was given money.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the store and the alleged robber left on foot, heading south, according to a press release issued by the police department.
The alleged robber is described as a medium to dark skinned male between 5’8” and 6 feet tall, weighing between 175 to 200 pounds. According to police, the man was wearing an off-white puffy winter parka with a black collar and a black square on the back. The alleged robber was also wearing khaki cargo pants with black footwear, along with dark oval sunglasses and a nylon head cover, according to police.
Rouse said there have been no leads in the case, but said he believes the alleged robber could have visited the store previously.
As of press time, representatives of Cumberland Farms were unavailable for comment.
Police are asking anyone with possible information on the robbery to contact Officer Andrew Flynn or Det. Ivan Ramsdell of the Scarborough Police Department at 883-6361.
