Letters: Election 2008 (Oct. 10, 2008)
D’Andrea is right choice for council
Editor:
I am delighted to support Karen D’Andrea in her run for the Scarborough Town Council. In a short letter I can name only a few of her many virtues, talents and varied experiences which qualify her for this position.
She came to Maine 20 years ago and is the mother of a fine and industrious son just graduated from Scarborough High School. She is a former Marine. In addition to her regular work, she always makes time for community volunteering.
She believes government should serve all our citizens first and foremost, and that economic growth needs to be balanced by adequate caring for the beauty of Scarborough, as well as its limited resources.
She believes in hearing and considering democratically all points of view, followed by decision-making and actions that enhance our community as a whole.

Vote D’Andrea for council Nov. 4
Editor:
Despite the important issues unfolding in our state and federal governments, sometimes it is difficult to feel that one has influence or power in various political decisions or outcomes. Town governance, however, offers quite different opportunities to speak out and be heard in meaningful ways. This year five candidates are running for three positions on Scarborough Town Council: I am proud to endorse the candidacy of Karen D’Andrea.
Karen has lived in Scarborough for nine years and her son is a recent graduate of Scarborough High School. A former Marine, Karen is a woman of integrity, intelligence and exemplary character. In addition to volunteering, she has worked as a consultant to non-profit organizations and helped them become structurally stronger and better able to accomplish their goals. She has repeatedly demonstrated that she is able to work cooperatively on difficult issues and to facilitate effective discussion and communication.
Some issues of concern for Karen include the constructive physical and economic growth of Scarborough, energy innovation and conservation, and transparency in government proceedings. While I am excited about Karen’s candidacy, I urge you not only to investigate for yourself her qualifications and experience, but also to communicate with her your concerns and issues of importance. Contact her at karenforscarborough@yahoo.com or call her at 831-9568. You too will be impressed!
