Letter: Conservation commission helps town (Sept. 12, 2008)

Editor:

The marshes are one of the most unique and treasured features of Scarborough. Protecting such a beautiful and delicate ecosystem requires diligence and knowledge and the citizens of Scarborough have been fortunate to have the input of the conservation commission for the past 10 years. These dedicated and concerned volunteers have been working with the town council and town planning board to guard the environmental health of people and land in Scarborough.

Scarborough citizens should be made aware of the recent unanimous ruling by the town council to limit their input on new land development to a “upon request by the town council” status only. The conservation commission will not be allowed access to any projects unless the town council deems it necessary. With the definite pro-building, anti environmental bias of the current council, I am very worried about Scarborough’s future.
