Letter: Dismayed with Black Point Park (Aug. 15, 2008)
Editor:
I read with dismay but not surprise your Aug. 1 description of the Black Point Park. My dismay is based on the fact that increased spending (in this case unnecessary) causes taxes to increase.
My lack of surprise is based on the continuation of Scarborough’s Town Hall ignoring the financial realities of the large percentage of its citizens who are retired and trying to cope on fixed incomes.
Parks are fine if needed and affordable. The citizens voted against an elaborate $1 million version of this park in 2007, so by what logic does spending $350,000 in 2008 make sense. Other than that our town bureaucracy wanted to spend our money.
I am pleased to see that at least one other taxpayer expressed similar sentiments in his Aug. 8 letter.
