Letter: SHS cheerleaders display patriotism (July 11, 2008)
Editor:
This is in reference to a letter posted last week by Mr. Edward Bossom and our Scarborough High School athletes. While I do agree with Mr. Bossom in that political correctness is out of control not only in Scarborough, I must strongly disagree with his grouping of all high school athletes together in his insult. I ask Mr. Bossom if he has ever watched an SHS cheerleader at an event? At every football game, basketball game or competition, these girls stand up straight with their left arm behind their back and their right arm crossed over their chest with their hand over their heart. I have seen several of these girls at outside events as well and they stand the same way, my daughter included. She learned this stance as a Scarborough athlete. Mr. Bossom, please do your research a little better next time. I realize this country is sadly un-patriotic but insulting a bunch of teenagers and their educators is not the solution.
