Letter: Consider Cote for Congress (June 6, 2008)

Editor:
Typically I don’t get much involved with primary elections; however, this year is different. Major change is happening in Washington, and not just in the presidential seat. Tom Allen, one of my all time favorite elected persons is running against Susan Collins this year, meaning that he vacates his very important seat in Congress. We need to make sure that his seat is filled with someone that will work hard to do as good a job as he has done for Maine. Last week, I met someone that I believe will, and I would like you to consider voting him:  Adam Cote.
Adam has pledged to focus on jobs and the economy and to become a leader in encouraging clean, green, renewable energy. He has former job experience to help us end our dependence on foreign oil and to save money for Maine families struggling to pay for gas and oil.
Adam will be only the second Iraq veteran to serve as a state representative if he is elected. And though he wants to get us out of Iraq, he is thoughtful enough to know that we cannot leave a huge humanitarian problem there. It is important to stop pointing the finger at how we illegally got there, but to focus on how to fix it. And although Adam might agree that this administration has committed acts that are impeachable, it is not his primary concern nor is it a goal as it is for some other candidates who will only cause more partisanship in Congress if they’re elected.
Adam is willing to look toward the future. I believe Adam Cote will bring fresh new energy to the Washington scene because he is not a career politician like his opponents Chellie Pingree and Ethan Strimling. That’s what’s needed right now.
So, I am writing to urge you to get out and vote during this year’s primary on June 10 and to visit www.AdamCote.com before you do; or better yet, pick up an absentee ballot and vote now if you want.
