Pitbull attack results in dog’s death Tuesday (Printed April 25, 2008)
Two pit bulls belonging to residents on Burnham Road fatally attacked a small dog Tuesday. Burnham Road resident Steve Caiazzo said his 11-year-old daughter and wife Laurie Caiazzo were walking their small dog when the pit bulls charged at them from across the street.
Steve Caiazzo said the pit bulls previously attacked one of his other dogs, calling them a “menace to the neighborhood.”
Laurie Caiazzo said in that attack, the pit bulls mauled the left side of the dog’s face resulting in surgeries and other complications. She said after that incident police told the pit bull owners to keep the dogs tied up but since then, they have been seen roaming Burnham Road.
She said these instances are not the first she and neighbors have experienced with the animals and she plans to press charges.
“He shouldn’t have these dogs, we shouldn’t have to keep going through this,” she said.
Phone calls to the pitbull’s owner were unsuccessful as the line is temporarily disconnected.
According to police, when the pit bulls ran out of the driveway and headed for the girl she picked up her dog and began to run for her house. When the dogs caught up to her they began to jump on her and bite her dog. She dropped her dog to defend herself. The girl continued to run from home while the pit bulls allegedly killed the other dog.
When police arrived at 8 Burnham Road the pit bulls had reportedly been taken away by a family member. As of press time, the dogs had not been located and the case is under investigation by the Scarborough Police Department.
