Police Notes for March 7, 2008


FROM AWAY

Police transported three non-English speaking men to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office for processing after the agency determined they were in the country illegally.


MOOSE BURGLAR

Officers responded to a complaint that a window had been broken out in the attic of the Moose lodge overnight. Nothing was missing from the lodge.


NUMB DRUNK

Police arrested a man on Pine Point Road for possession of a concealed weapon and operating under the influence when they discovered a pair of nunchucks in his vehicle.


OMINOUS ODE

Police filed a report of a resident receiving a suspicious letter in his mailbox, written in poem format and titled “Ode to Old 18.” The poem, which was accompanied by photos of a 1980s Scarborough plow truck number 8418, detailed the adventures of an intoxicated plow truck driver. The Portland return address on the letter did not exist.


ANIMAL LOVER 

Police arrested a man for operating under the influence after he struck a tree on the side of Jasper Street, causing $3,000 in damage to his car, which police said was littered with empty and full beer cans. The man told police he lost control of the car when a cat crossed the road in front of him.


PASSING THROUGH

Police extradited an Illinois man they pulled over for driving without a license on Payne Road. The Illinois warrant included a charge of possession of a controlled substance.


CREDIT AND CARRY

Police filed a report when a resident returned from a two-week vacation and discovered his 48-inch plasma television and laptop valued at $2,400, were missing. Police found no signs of forced entry and the resident informed them the front door could be opened easily with a credit card.


CLOSET DRINKERS

Police responded to a noise complaint from a neighbor who believed they could hear a loud party where there was drug use and underage drinking. Officers located several people behind a closet door once inside, and discovered they were all of legal drinking age when they willingly opened the door after several minutes.


INTERNET THREAT Officers responded to a fight between five girls, two of whom said the other girls were making threats in person and online. The school district will investigate the incident.


CONSIRACY THEORY Police filed a report of a man who became agitated with two other men who he said were staring and making hand gestures at him. He told officers he believed they were part of a large organization that had been harassing him for years, and refused to submit to a self-evaluation.
