Letter: Ruined Sunday (Printed March 7, 2008)

Editor:

A beautiful Sunday morning – a drive to Higgins Beach. Look! The traffic sign warning of two-way traffic and no parking is not blinking! The road crews are not visible! The trucks and construction vehicles are quiet! It’s low tide, perhaps we can go for a walk on the beach, avoiding icy roads and sidewalks. Surely no one will care on a Sunday morning if we park way off the road down by the walkway. But they do care.

Scarborough’s finest, even early on a Sunday morning, are out doing their duty. We get a parking ticket, a $40 ticket! That’s a dollar a minute! It would have been nice to get just a warning. After all, after 20 years living in Scarborough, we have never before received a ticket of any kind!

Oh well, it spoiled a delightful walk on a Sunday morning and left a sour taste in our mouths. But I guess that’s life in Scarborough.
