Greetings Scarborough
By Molly Lovell
Editor
To the residents of Scarborough, let me introduce myself, my name is Molly Lovell and I’m your new editor of the Scarborough Leader.
I say “your” editor because I’m here to listen to your suggestions, write your stories and to continue to bring you the level of news coverage you have become accustomed to reading in the Leader.
If it’s a story about the tremendous growth the town is going through, or a story about an interesting event going on at one of your schools, I want to cover it.
Not all news has to be bad news. It’s a newspaper’s job to tell you about the fires and the arrests and the sometimes complicated goings on in the Town Council.
It’s also our job to tell you about the ordinary people in your community who do extraordinary things.
I encourage you to call or e-mail me with your ideas and letters to the editor. Send me your pictures and press releases and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself.
I began working in newspapers nearly four years ago. I started out typing calendar listings for one of the state’s daily newspapers. It definitely wasn’t the most exciting job, but I knew I wouldn’t be doing that forever.
At the same time I also worked as a staff reporter at my college newspaper, The University of Maine’s Free Press, and eventually became sports editor.
For the past year I have been covering Saco and Kennebunk for two of the Leader’s sister papers, the Kennebunk Post and the Courier.
I know that experience will help me to get to know your town, something I’m very much looking forward to doing.
