This Week's Editorial – By Lucas Knowles
More ‘great people’ needed
The process of nominating people for the Leader’s annual Great Person Award is underway – and we need your help to find people in the community to place on the ballot.
The Great Person Award is given to someone in the coverage area of each of our publications at Mainely Newspapers, Inc.
There are no special qualifications for the Great Person Award – it exists to highlight some people in the community who may not get recognized for their efforts but are making a difference and improving the world around them. The only requirement we have is that someone who has won the award previously does not get nominated this year.
Even though it has been said many times, it is an honor just to be nominated for this award. That is why we are hoping to have as many people as possible on this year’s ballot. We want to place as many people in the community spotlight as we possibly can.
The Great Person Award is something we look forward to every year because it gives the Leader a chance to honor some people who may not get the recognition they deserve. The winner receives a plaque and is the subject of the Weekly Interview.
Nominations will be accepted until Monday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. There are many ways to nominate a person (see story on page one). A ballot of those nominated will appear in the issues of Dec. 15 and Dec. 22. Voting will take place from Dec. 15 to Dec. 28. The winner will be announced in the Leader’s first issue of the new year.
