The Oak Hill Players at Scarborough High School are hoping to make people feel nostalgic for the decade of poodle skirts and the birth of rock and roll with their upcoming production.
Students will perform “Those Fabulous Fifties!”, a revue featuring characters from television shows and music of the 1950s. Shows will be held at the Winslow Homer Auditorium in Scarborough High School on Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 2:20 p.m.
Forty students are taking part in this year’s production. The Oak Hill Players have performed in the fall for the past seven years.
The show is being directed Cheryl Greeley and Charlie Grindle. Louise Keezer constructed all of the costumes for the production.
“Those Fabulous Fifties!” includes vignettes featuring stars from Burns and Allen to Richie Valens, Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper and features songs such as “Where the Boys Are” and “Rock Around the Clock.” The show will also feature a hula-hoop contest and a game of “Beat the Clock” where members of the audience can win prizes.
Donna Poulin, the business manager for the Oak Hill Players, said practicing and performing the revue has given students a lesson in 1950s culture.
“This is music (the students) have heard, but never have gotten a chance to perform,” Poulin said. “It is a lesson in history for them.”
Students, along with members of the community, have been preparing for the play for the past six weeks.
Tickets for “Those Fabulous Fifties!” are available one hour prior to show time or by calling 767-1353.
